Supreet on how she would define her own decor style
I had read somewhere years ago that there is a deep connection between home decor and well – being. You can create a vibe in which you live better, more effectively, and more happily in your home. This has been my mantra ever since or rather this defines my style of decorating till today. My home is full of stuff that is so ME – loads of flora, endless pieces of Pondicherry pottery and a vibrant mix of colors and patterns – elements which instil a deep sense of calm in me. I have over a period of time developed a decor sense that is a fusion of urban and rural living, with a bias towards earthy and traditional.
SUPREET
Let’s walk-through with Supreet!
The cosy yet stylish living room
Well-ventilated with a striking teal-coloured accent wall and terracotta-tiled flooring, the living room reflects my urban-ethnic sense with its modern sofa sets and elegant false ceiling but traditional hanging lamps, rustic-framed mirrors, textured bench and lots of plants!
The dining room wears a French country look
This room is separated from the living room with a set of chiks – these chiks remind me of sunny afternoons in courtyards. Again, the room reflects my love for the rustic and for wood – it’s designed with wooden furniture with plank-like designs, benches, cabinets and, of course, the dining table.
The bar
To make the most of the little space in the house, I created the bar in a small corner of the living room and in the shadow of the main entrance door when it opens inwards. To maintain a sense of continuity, I fabricated the bar with the same terracotta-style tiles used on the floor. This has been topped with a polished white marble slab. A lighting arrangement crafted out of a sheesham wood block and used wine bottles is the main attraction of this area. Like I always say or rather sing…..Baar (bar) baar dekho, hazaar baar dekho…..
Bedroom
Cotton blinds, mirrors and teak furniture form part of this room, which has just enough space for a bed and two side tables. The room has rust-coloured, matt-finish ceramic tiles, and cotton blinds for the windows.
Bathroom
As far as Indian bathrooms go, this one is a breath of fresh air. The first thing you notice are the 4-inch-sized, peacock blue designer tiles on the facing wall. The bathroom has a huge wash basin with a cabinet (which makes storage an easy process) and anti-skid floor tiles.
Kitchen
The kitchen is an extension of my favorite color – teal. It has this color clearly splashed all over in the form of the cabinets. I love floating shelves but since I don’t have much space, I had to manage very small ones but the best part is that they are filled with earthen pots and bowls and that’s what pleases me the most while I cook.
