Benches have always fascinated me. I grew up in Mangalore where benches (rather like the one above) are an integral part of the front porch decor. Gossip, selecting wares from door-to-door salesmen, afternoon siestas and informal entertaining, studying, reading, you name it…it’s all done on the bench in most houses back home!
